Guidelines
THE DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE 2013-14 RESIDENT ARTIST PROGRAM IS OCTOBER 16, 2013.
 
 
The term of the residency is 6 months.
 
Applications are generally accepted every other year.  Applications for the 2013-14 sessions must be received by October 16, 2013.  In alternate years, the Residency is conferred upon previous Resident Artists for projects closer to full realization.  Third party nominations by established artists or arts presenters are encouraged, but not required.  The program is closed to registered students.

 

Appointed Artists attend monthly meetings with mentors and other Resident Artists during which they show aspects of the work in progress, receive feedback from one or more of Mabou Mines’ co-artistic directors and pursue ideas for the work going forward.

Appointed Artists have 24/7 access to rehearsal space by arrangement with Mabou Mines and in cooperation with the other Resident Artists.  Artists also enjoy reasonable use of Mabou Mines’ stage equipment in consultation with the program’s technical advisor.  Appointed artists also enjoy limited but very knowledgeable assistance in locating other residencies and sources of funding to further their work, along with significant administrative and technical support.

At the close of the residency, appointed Artists must offer at least one free public showing of the work created during the Residency in whatever form the Artist thinks most beneficial.

PHASE I: INITIAL PROPOSAL

For consideration for the 2013-14 season, the following information may either be emailed to: rap@maboumines.org (please send everything in pdf format) or mailed to Mabou Mines' office postmarked no later than October 16, 2013:

  • Resume describing previous work.

  • Proposal for work to be done during the residency, including ideas the artist intends to investigate and specifics as to what artist plans to accomplish: completed script, staged reading, performance, etc.

After the company reviews all resumes and proposals, applicants will be notified whether they may proceed to Phase II of the application.

PHASE II: ADDITIONAL MATERIALS

If selected as a finalist, applicant will be asked to submit the additional materials described below. All must be mailed to Mabou Mines' office postmarked no later than November 25, 2013.

  • Work sample (DVD, VHS, CD, script excerpt, writing sample, photos, drawings, etc.).

  • Name and phone number or email address of two (2) people with professional working knowledge of the applicant and his or her work.

PHASE III: APPOINTMENT

Mabou Mines’ co-artistic directors will review the additional materials. Up to 10 projects will be selected. Notices of appointment to the Suite will be on or before December 16, 2013.

Upon receipt of notification, appointed artist must send written confirmation stating that artist can and will meet the terms and requirements of the residency.  This confirmation letter must be mailed to Mabou Mines' office by December 30, 2013.  In the event that an artist does not respond or is unable to participate, the appointment will be offered to another artist.

Should you wish to have materials returned to you, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with correct postage. Due to the enormous number of applications we receive, we are unable to return your materials otherwise. No one may pick up or deliver materials to Mabou Mines' office in person.
