B’rer Rabbit in the Land of the Monkey King
Ming Ri Institute for Arts Education and Mabou Mines of New York join with the venerable Guangxi puppet Art Troupe of China to present the international production of Brer Rabbit in the Land of the Monkey King.
The Story:
American folk hero B’rer Rabbit outwits the fox every time, but he may have met his match in the land of the Chinese legendary character the Monkey King. The American trickster goes on a cultural odyssey in this story, where he meets the shape-shifting immortal figure from the epic saga Journey to the West.
B’rer Rabbit in the Land of the Monkey King imaginatively weaves together stories from both of these folk traditions to create a playful mix of cultures and storytelling magic.
